A Scooter to beat traffic - Sydney Morning Herald, 22 June 1975

The Lambretta 150 motor scooter is ideal for the commuter looking for two-wheel transport - but who doesn't want a motor cycle.
It has all the advantages of a small motor cycle - low petrol consumption, easy parking and traffic-beating qualities - plus some of its own.
The full leg shield provides weather protection unequalled by any motor cycle, the step through design is comfortable for dress-wearing women riders and the fully covered mechanical parts prevent oil stains on clothes.
Well behaved
The Italian designed Spanish built Lambretta is so easy to operate it poses no problems for even the smallest and lightest non-mechanically minded novice rider.
Built around a solid single tube frame that passes over the engine and runs the full length of the scooter, the Lambretta is a practical answer to today's traffic problems.
For the duration of our test, the Little Lambretta behaved perfectly.
It carries two people crowded together on the short seat, but in the middle engine range the passenger has a spine tingling ride.
The controls are straight forward to use.
The rider sits upright, feet tucked behind the weather shield, perched on the scooter.
It is a riding style that does not lend itself to fast riding, nor should it. The Lambretta - with a  top speed of less than 100km/h (60mph) - is not a fast machine.
But it is stable and even the most inexperienced rider should not get into trouble.
The suspension - swinging links and shock absorbers on the front and springs and shocks on the back - is harsh and the little 10inch wheels pick up every bump in the road.
But is doe the job and the scooter does  not veer from a  tight line, even on corner with broken road surfaces.
Despite the advantages over small motorcycles, the $695 price tag is hard to justify.
Taken over a life of 10 to 15 years, not uncommon for scooters, that's less than the cost of two or three "throw away" motor cycles and cheaper in the long run.
